Summer Worship, 2008
This summer we will worship together at 10 am.  This will be an informal service in our sanctuary, with diverse and blended music, family activities and community.  These single services will begin on June 15th.  More information about summer worship PDF Logo
Dixieland PlayingJune 29th is our annual Dixieland Service at 10 am.  Sunday, June 29, at 10:00 am, Dixieland Jazzthe St. Louis Rivermen, with Jean Kittrell, will present our annual Dixieland Jazz service. The loose offering of the day will be given to the OlyJazz Scholarship Fund, to assist students pursuing music careers. This will be Jean’s last performance in Olympia with the Dixieland Jazz Festival, as she is retiring from the Dixieland tour this year.

c.    August 10, “Joshua”

d.    WARM-UP time is 9:00 am on each of the Sunday mornings, with service time 10:00am

The choir selections are easy, upbeat, fun, even humorous choral arrangements. We can use singers/instrumentalists of all ages.

On Sunday, June 15th, Rachelle Gensolin, a student of Nancy Adsit, will be playing music for our worships service at our 10 am Summer Worship Service.
Sunday, June 15, at 2:00pm, Dr. James Buckland and Dr. Sandra Buckland, of Presbyterian College in South Carolina, will perform classical guitar and piano selections in our sanctuary. The concert is a feature of the United Churches Music and Arts Event Series. James Buckland is not only a celebrated guitar performer, but also a noted terz guitar researcher and a luthier. Admission is by free will contribution.
Sunday, June 22, the Tacoma Noteables String Quartet will play the 10:00 am service music, and also perform during the coffee hour after worship, in the Fireside Room. The presentations are in celebration of Betty Nickerson’s 80th birthday. Ruth Montgomery is a violinist in the quartet.
Thursday, June 26, at 7:00 pm, Charlie Albright, celebrated pianist from Centralia and a protégé of Nancy Adsit of Olympia, will perform a full recital in the United Churches sanctuary. Charlie, a 2007 Centralia College graduate, is now a student at both Yale University and the Boston Conservatory.
Charlie was recently selected through a world-wide audition process to be one of thirty-six finalists in the Sydney International Piano Competition of Australia. Charlie will travel to Sydney in July for the final stages of the competition, and he will be accompanied by John and Nancy Adsit. Charlie will present his competition pieces for our United Churches audience. Admission is by free will contribution. Charlie is this year’s youngest competitor.
The televised music competition is presented by the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in association with the University of Sydney. It is held every four years and is internationally recognized as one of the world's great piano competitions. It is now in it’s thirty-first year.
The competition consists of five stages and an opening recital; the first stage involves world-wide auditions to locate the best pianists. The first, second, third and fourth stages take place at the Seymour Center, University of Sydney, and the fifth stage is held at Sydney Opera House. The overall winner must be aged between seventeen and thirty years old, and will receive a prize of $25,000, with smaller prizes awarded for other placings. A total of thirty-six pianists from a number of different countries are selected to compete in the competition for a period of three weeks.
July 6, Charlie will assist with our 10 am worship service. Come and enjoy !!

July 12, Planet Percussion will provide a free will benefit concert for Camp Quixote 7:00 pm, in the sanctuary. A pot luck precedes the concert at 6 pm in the Social Hall.
