Our Second Pastor Search Process
More about Amy Roon
Amy Roon Welcome Amy !!
By Mark Dowdy, Pastor
At a very affirming and exciting congregational meeting Jan. 21 Amy Roon was elected by a 98 percent vote to be our new associate pastor. Amy started with us on March 1, 2007.
Amy Jan 21, 2007Lee Johnson, a member of the Pastor Seeking Committee, introduced Amy and reviewed the process by which the committee selected her. The processes for introducing Amy to all of our members,Mark D, Kirstin and Amy, January 21 participants, ministries and groups will be forthcoming from the Council. Also, as the Pastor Seeking Committee finishes its work, an evaluation of the process is being compiled for future pastor seeking committees.

Amy is very excited being our second pastor.   She sends these words to the congregation:
"Serendipity. When Kirsten contacted me last June about an All Church Retreat for the United Churches of Olympia, I was excited about all the ideas she said you wanted to explore. During and after the retreat all I kept thinking was, what a wonderful congregation this is; so willing to explore and create, and so open with each other and the stranger (me!). As the application process unfolded in moments of discernment and discovery, with every step I could feel the spirit holding me, leading me, stretching me to reach out and join hands with this congregation."
Our last update reported that the committee scheduled in-person interviews with three candidates. All three candidates have now visited Olympia. and were interviewed by our PSC
During the Olympia visit, each candidate met with church staff.  The committee watched the candidates preach at “neutral pulpits” in the area.  Interviews were conducted after dinners in the homes of three committee members. Each candidate has particular strengths and it was hard to choose.   After deliberations at several meetings, the committee made its recommendation.
Amy Roon was our recommended candidate.  Amy comes to us after an interim ministry position on Lummi Island, Washington.  Many of you met her at the church retreat where she was coincidentally presenting a program that involved motion and spirituality.  January 2007
