Experiment ends with consensus |
|

Around 95 members and friends met in the Social Hall
on Nov. 19 to do end-of-year business and enjoy a light lunch
provided by Congregational Life. |
|
It was decided that we will replace the carpeting in
the Sanctuary, retain the pews (perhaps with more space between
them) and look for ways to accommodate those who use wheelchairs or
walkers or have other special needs. |
|
After a rousing but civil discussion, the plan was
approved by a nearly unanimous vote, thus accomplishing the goal of
the Council to reach consensus on sanctuary renewal plans. This
culminates the process fondly known as “The Great Experiment,” in
which different configurations of movable chairs were tried along
with the existing carpet and bare floors. |
|
After different arrangements were tried, the congregation
was surveyed on its preferences. Results of the survey were
discussed after each of the services on the weekend prior to the
congregation meeting. Renewal plans also include better lighting in
the Sanctuary and chancel area |
