Several of us travelled to Sound View Presbyterian camp http://www.soundviewcamp.com/ to look at the layout of the camp as well as the facility meeting rooms sleep rooms, and bathroom facilities. We were treated to a nice lunch, and met the camp director.
Our goals were to see what the camp looked like, and how accommodating the sleeping rooms, restrooms and meeting rooms would be for our congregation, especially folks with various disabilities.
Unfortunately the camp is spread out over a larger and hillier area than Pilgrim Firs (where TUCO church retreats have been held in past years) which would add much additional walking up and down hills between dining room, cabins, worship area, water area and recreation area. The sleeping and bathing arrangements would be a challenge for many people. We’re very interested in seeing about using this camp for smaller retreats that could be centered in 1 area of the camp, and especially for our youth.
We are beginning to plan our retreat for 2012, which will be the last weekend of August at Pilgrim Firs. If you have ideas or would like to help us plan the retreat, please contact Mark Boyd. A planning meeting will be coming up soon.
