| TO ALL USHERS |
| The Worship Ministry and pastor of The United Churches of Olympia consider ushering a most important part of our worship life and ministry. Through your unique ministry as an usher, you can help create an atmosphere conductive to worship through your appearance and actions. This is in addition to your concern for the comfort and safety of the congregation. The following instruction should assist you in fulfilling this ministry to the Church of Jesus Christ.\ |
|
USHERING RESPONSIBILITIES |
| 1. Please arrive 30 minutes before
the service (10:30am). 2. Check with the Head Usher on the procedure of the service. 3. Please wear the name tag provided so members and friends are able to identify you. 4. After the musical improvisation is finished at the end of the service, replace hymnals in pew racks, pick up bulletins, papers, hearing aids, and expression of friendship forms and take them to the Church office. 5. Take the childrens clipboards in their respective buckets and place them on the table across from the Church office. 6. If unable to serve on assigned Sunday, please notify Usher Coordinator or Head Usher as early as possible. |
|
GENERAL PROCEDURES |
| 1. While worshipers are entering
sanctuary, stand by the last row of pews at the entrance. Encourage
people to fill the sanctuary toward the front. Also offer them the
current hymnal, which is on the cart in the sanctuary. 2. Offering: Two ushers will serve center aisle; one usher at each outside aisle; one in the balcony if open. 3. After the service begins, latecomers may be seated when the congregation rises. 4. Greet worshipers pleasantly, but save conversation for after the service. Even voices in the Narthex create a disturbance from those in the sanctuary preparing for the service. 5. Give our information brochure Journey With Us, a copy of the current Voice and any seasonal brochures to new worshipers. 6. When there is a need to evacuate the building during an emergency, the Head Usher will be in charge. 7. Hall doors should remain closed after the choir and worship leaders have entered. 8. Outer doors should always be closed during services and fire doors must be kept closed at all times, except when attended. |

Please put any apples left back in the refrigerator after the service! 5.
