The Theology, Natural Sciences, and Continuing Creation (TNSCC) ministry helps the congregation gain a greater understanding of the relevance of scientific findings to the traditions, beliefs, and practices of persons of faith. We do this by providing information to pastors, church leaders, members, and the larger community about areas in which ecology, the natural sciences, and technological advances may have an impact on the church’s mission and lives of participants.
We are now helping make The United Churches of Olympia more GREEN
Beginning early in 2012, TNSCC will be working with different groups in the church to move The United Churches of Olympia toward be a greener congregation. There are a number of ways we as a congregation, and as individuals, can contribute to the greening.
What has already been done:
- An energy audit of the church resulted in a “swap-out” of high energy use lights for more eco-friendly, florescent bulbs.
- Energy costs have been reduced as a result of new lighting.
Ideas now in the works:
- Clearer and more efficient collection of waste for recycling.
- Better recycling of food and garbage in the kitchen and snack areas.
- Better recycling of paper in the office and throughout the church.
More ideas? TNSCC would like to hear from you. We are looking forward to a much greener 2012.
