CROP Walk in Honor of Alice Lewis
The
28th annual Thurston County CROP Walk will take place on
Sunday, May 4.
It will
be The United Churches of Olympia’s first CROP Walk without Alice
Lewis.
Alice was a
strong CROP Walk supporter and TUCO’s CROP Walk coordinator for most
of those years.
This
year, we are dedicating TUCO’s CROP Walk in her memory.
Alice Lewis and
all of you who have walked and sponsored walkers through the years
have made TUCO a leader and a huge part of the CROP Walk success in
Thurston County. Last year’s CROP Walk raised more than $50,000 – 75
percent of funds raised go to reduce hunger
and improve lives of people around the world and 25 percent stays in
our community to help meet local needs.
This
year’s CROP Walk promises to be even bigger with the exciting news
that COSTCO is offering to match the money raised in Thurston
County.
If you are
interested in walking or would like to sponsor a walker,
information, materials, and CROP Walk tee shirts will be available
in the Narthex between services and after the 11:00 service on
Sundays.
The six miles or
10 kilometer walk will start between the State Capitol and the
Temple of Justice with registration and pre-walk activities at 12:30
and the walk itself will begin at 1:30. The route goes
around Capitol Lake and returns along Capitol Avenue.
Refreshments are provided at the halfway point and at the end.
CROP Walk has
become an important part of a TUCO tradition of service and caring
for others.
It is also a great way to join others from our
church and our community in an enjoyable activity and a worthy
cause. For more information contact John Bowden at 956-9888 or
