THE WASHINGTON BASIC HEALTH PLAN is a state sponsored health insurance program for any Washington resident who is not eligible for Medicare and not institutionalized at the time of enrollment. Currently, more than 219,000 residents have health care coverage through Basic Health programs.
Basic Health provides members with an affordable basic package of health benefits through contracts with 10 private health plans.  Members pay a monthly premium based on income, age, family size, and the health plan they choose. Washington State helps pay part of the premium for members who meet income guidelines. These members are in the "reduced-premium" program.
