CROP Walk May 5

The 33rd Thurston County CROP Hunger Walk is Sunday, May 5.

Coffee Cup Cadet Report

recycle-2The United Churches of Olympia began a new method of recycling food items, cans and plastic containers, and paper in November 2012. There are now two recycling options, in addition to regular waste collection.

BLUE containers and signs for RECYCLE — Paper, Cans, and Plastic;

GREEN containers and signs for COMPOST — Food and Yard Waste.

The 2013 CROP Hunger Walk will take place Sunday afternoon on May 5.  Please save the date and plan to join in the walk.  This is Thurston County’s 33rd Walk and our Walk has ranked in the top two percent nationally in terms of money raised for many years.

Helping with the Emergency Overflow Shelter

If you haven’t signed up to be a host at the Women’s Emergency Overflow Shelter in our church please consider doing so.  We need a total of 14 hosts, men and women, for the evenings during the week of March 1-7.

Feb 24 Ugandan Orphans Choir–hosts needed

United Churches’ Fine Arts Event Series is sponsoring the Ugandan Orphans Choir in concert on Sunday, February 24, at 5:00 pm. This delightful choir of eight-to-twelve year olds will sing and dance their hearts out for us. They are traveling internationally to raise awareness of the plight of Ugandan orphans, to offer sponsorships of orphans and to seek financial support for their orphanages.

Women’s Emergency Overflow Shelter

This coming March, The United Churches will again host the Women’s Emergency Overflow Shelter.  Our congregation will host for a week beginning Friday March 1 and The Community for Interfaith Celebration (CIC) will host it for the second week beginning March 8.

Each year since 1990, Interfaith Works has organized the Overflow Shelter to serve as the last resort for single women and women with children when beds at other shelters are not available. Between November and April, congregations host for two weeks at a time.
