Marriage Equality… and The United Churches

On November 6, the state of Washington voted to approve marriage for same-sex couples. With the blessing of our Council, the Marriage Equality Task Force worked hard in these past few months to advocate for this legislation.

The Council made a decision to engage in this work for gays and lesbians which left some members of our congregation feeling overlooked and unheard. As a federated congregation, whose mission is to “mutual support and nurture,” we want to care for each other ...

Marriage Equality in Washington State!

Dear sisters and brothers!

Hallelujah!

I can’t stop smiling. I can barely believe its true. Yesterday, Washington State voted to affirm marriage equality which means that, starting today, gay and lesbian couples who chose to marry have the same access to the privileges and protections that come with state law as do straight couples. What an amazing, amazing day!

You all did this. In Washington State, we built the largest religious coalition of marriage equality ...

Interfaith Service for Referendum 74

On Wednesday November 7 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm Temple Beth Hatfiloh, 201 8^th Ave SE Olympia, is holding an interfaith service for the South Sound community responding to the Ref. 74 election outcome.

Convened by Rabbi Seth Goldstein, the service will offer an opportunity for people of faith to gather in worship There will be opportunities to share, sing and pray together.

The Washington United for Marriage Faith Team has asked faith communities across the state to hold these services. All are most welcome to attend.

“Why Isn’t Domestic Partnership Enough?“–this powerful forum was sponsored by our Marriage Equality Task Force on Oct 4th.

Speakers from various faith perspectives responded to this question with moving personal stories and learned theological and legal perspectives. Speakers included Gib Rossing, United Churches; Kathleen Peppard, Community for Interfaith Celebration; Jennifer Ducummon and Dorothy Ducummon, United Churches; Rabbi Seth Goldstein, Temple Beth Hatfiloh; Jody Smith, United Churches; Scott Douglas, local attorney; Debra Peevy, Washington United for Marriage.
