Footsteps on our Journey

Many thanks for your Camp Quixote commitments. Your collective response to our call for holiday contributions for the Camp’s residents has been outstanding. For Surviving Stocking “Stuffers”, you provided numerous boxes of hand warmers (“hotties”) and foot warmers, new warm socks, other (expensive) clothing, toiletries, candy and gift cards. Twenty-four stockings were fully “stuffed” and gratefully received by the residents at our Christmas Eve Day lunch for the residents.

Over thirty of you turned out to set-up and clean up after, the lunch and act as hosts for the Camp, breaking bread with our houseless friends. Still others of you provided additional food and cash contributions for the occasion. Look for pictures of the lunch on the website in the near future.

Your response for warm clothing has been impressive. These articles are carefully sorted and fairly allocated at the camp according to need. In all of this, you have nicely demonstrated TUCO’s hospitality.

Security Table Hosts Still Needed. Those of us charged with oversight of our church’s hosting of the camp reluctantly subscribe to the adage “No good turn deserves to go unpunished.” But “subscribe”, we must. To date, a little less than twenty of us (including some couples) have taken turns at the security host table at First Christian Church. For this commitment, we are most appreciative and for the fact that many of these folk have signed up for at least one three-hour shift per week through January.
We know that the holiday season challenges us all in allocation of time; but as we head into January, please check out the Host Calendar on our website and decide when you might be able to join our other hosts – and, of course, the camp residents in their temporary home and in extension of our hospitality.

Comfort and Safety Plan

The residents of Camp Quixote III Tent City, were our guests in our lower east parking lot through August 16. We still support the efforts and assist our other churches with hosting the Tent City.

All residents of the camp undergo Washington State Patrol screening for sex offender and other criminal convictions, and have strict self-governance with five (5) primary rules:  no drugs; no alcohol; no non-consensual sex; no violence; no theft.

Sign-up sheets are available at the Comfort and Safety Host table at the Camp to indicate your three or six hour shift. You can also call the Camp Quixote cell phone at 349-6395. Shifts begin at 3, 6, 9, and 12 of the clock.
