Mission,
Peace and Justice Ministry Announces
Bread For The World Offering of Letters
Presented
by
Mission,
Peace and Justice
Ministry (MPJ)
On June 6th,
2010, we will write our annual letters to our Congress members.
Bread for the World (B for W) is a Christian,
non-partisan, lobbying organization. B for W studies hunger issues throughout the
world. They study promises made, laws enacted, and budgets approved by our
Congressmen/women.
This
year B of W is urging us to write Congress to protect and strengthen
key tax credits that help low-wage workers bridge
the gap between what they earn and what it costs to support a family. The
Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) is the only provision in the US Tax code targeted to
low-income people. The EITC helps low-income families work their way out of
poverty. A study by tax experts has found more than 60% of families who file for EITC
do so for only 1-2 years at a
time.
EITC refunds are typically spent
soon
after they are received on goods and services. That employs more people and
helps keep local economies active.
On June 6th we will also collect $1.00 (or more)
in the collection plate
from each Church member.
This will support B for W administration costs, and
continue our covenant relationship with them. To learn more
about how you can help end hunger in God's world visit
http://www.bread.org/help/ or
our TUCO website.
June 6th
the bulletin will have an insert with more information and a sample letter.
There will be tables and materials in the Narthex.
You can write your personal letters to congress between and after the
services Sunday morning. Hand written letters are the most effective. The B
for W website is also set up for sending emails easily.
