| We were founded by two former
World Bank executives who wanted to pursue another model of
development: something that was grass-roots and local, something
that recognized that individuals at the community-level have better
perceptions of what their communities need to improve their
well-being. GlobalGiving finds grass-roots organizations that fit
this model, makes sure they are legitimate, and then helps them post
on our website. Then, those who are more fortunate (or who want to
give alternative gifts that perhaps better reflect the spirit of the
holiday season) can pick what project touches them personally and
donate to that. The idea is that development is community driven,
but that those outside the community can still have a huge impa |
