We are a federation of two mainline Protestant denominations: Presbyterian Church (USA) and the United Church of Christ (UCC). Before 1916, we were the First Congregational Church of Olympia and the First Presbyterian Church of Olympia. In 1916, these two communities came together for worship, mission, service and education as The United Churches of Olympia.
We love God and follow Jesus Christ. We are empowered by God’s Spirit to serve the larger community. We believe God loves all people and wants us to be as whole and healthy as possible. We do not take the Bible literally, but we certainly take it seriously as a rule for our faith and life.
We believe God wants us to challenge injustices, inequities and the systems of our world that take advantage of the marginalized, the disadvantaged, the differently-abled and those who cannot speak or act for themselves. We seek to proclaim Jesus Christ alive, attempting to be faithful to the good news and to speak a word of encouragement and hope as we continue to struggle for what it means to be a Christian in a rapidly changing world.
We also really like the motto from the UCC stillspeaking campaign: No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome here. We hope that this is true for the community we strive to be.
