Journey to Generosity – The Way of Jesus

From Wikipedia: To invest is to allocate money (or sometimes another resource, such as time) in the expectation of some benefit in the future, for example, investment on durable goods such as real estate for service industry and factory for manufacturing product development, which are two common types for micro-economic output in modern economy. Investment on Research and Development occurs mainly on the innovation of consumer products.

I’ve been thinking a lot about investment lately, not in terms of making money, but in terms of connecting with what brings us life and joy. For instance, I invest time in my family. I make calls every week to my mother, sister, and children to find out what they are up to and what is going on in their lives. I use vacation time to visit them and strengthen our bonds. I know that relationships take investment of time and presence to be fruitful.

I just started investing in a community group: Women United. I attend the all group meetings and the committee meetings, and I invite friends to go along. I give financial gifts. Participating isn’t easy for me because before I started, I only knew one other person in the group. I invest myself with this group because the mission is to enhance the lives of women and girls in our local area. The more I put into it, the more I get out of it.

I invest in the United Churches of Olympia. As I am on the staff of the church, my investment of time is obvious. I also make a personally significant financial contribution because I believe in the mission of our church to provide a place for personal spiritual transformation and relationship and to create a just world for all. Because I am invested, I receive a lot. The more I put into my investment, the more I get out of it.

You have all received a pledge card in the mail. You will soon receive the opportunity to fill out a Time and Talent Sheet wherein you can volunteer your gift of service. I promise you, the more that you invest in the ministry of the United Churches, the more you will receive. It is magic that way.

We will be dedicating our pledges on October 29th in worship. Join me in investing in our future together.

Blessings,

Tammy
